The Nightingale of the Psalms
The little twenty-third psalm, which has spoken to the hearts of millions, expresses Jehovah in every line, and is a latent transcript of the Ineffable Name:
(1) The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not
want - JEHOVAH JIREH.
(2) He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures: He leadeth me beside the still
waters - JEHOVAH
SHALOM.
(3) He restoreth my soul. - JEHOVAH ROPHI.
(4) He leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for His name's sake
- JEHOVAH TSIDKENU.
(5) Yea,
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
for thou art with
me: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me
- JEHOVAH SHAMMAH.
(6) Thou preparest a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies
- JEHOVAH NISSI.
(7) Thou hast anointed my head with oil; my
cup runneth over
- JEHOVAH MEQADDISHKHEM.
So all is clinched and clenched in the
Name at last revealed:
Surely goodness and
mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of JEHOVAH for ever--I AM: in the future as in the past, the same
yesterday, today, and forever.
